Did you know there is a Worship Committee at Community Church? If so, have you ever wondered what it does?
The Worship Committee is comprised of the chairs of a number of sub-committees, all of which have something to do with making our Sunday worship pleasant and meaningful. Those sub-committees are: Altar Guild, chaired by Ruth Ann Hamilton; Church Set-up, chaired by Jon Zetterberg; Communion, chaired by Liz Thomas; Flowers, chaired by Char Jensen; Lay Leaders, co-chaired by Karen Linglebach and Karen Martin; Music, chaired by Lauchette Low; and Ushers and Greeters, chaired by Dick and Linda Barr.
On any given Sunday, you will notice the sandwich boards on Mountain View Blvd and at Desert View Theater identifying the time and location of our service. This is just one of the responsibilities of the Set-up sub-committee. Ushers and greeters welcome you to the service and provide you with a bulletin and/or hymnal. The Altar Guild sets up the altar for each service. Preparation for communion the first Sunday of each month is done by the Communion sub-subcommittee. Once the service is over, these same people take down and/or store the equipment/supplies for the next service.
Our church secretary, Char Jensen, is responsible for coordinating the flowers that you see on stage each Sunday. Lay leaders contribute their talents by volunteering to read. Last, but not least, is our music which adds so much to each Sunday’s service. Charles Riddell is our Choir Director.
The Worship Committee, chaired by Edie Randall, meets four times each year. The Committee has been involved in getting sermons on the website, developing and implementing a Congregation Evacuation Plan, introducing larger print for bulletins, and supporting the Board as it worked with HOA #2 to purchase the new induction loop system for the hearing challenged. Goals for 2010 include: create an attractive, reverent, and spiritually uplifting Church environment, communicate the purposes of the Committee to the congregation via the website and newsletter, seek input to improve overall worship experience, and explore ways to get more people involved in church activities.
